Myrtle Products officially launched in March 2020. Many of you will remember it was a year of complete chaos, uncertainty and fear.
We definitely had no idea at that stage what Myrtle would soon become.
I, Benita, a qualified hairstylist, received a vision from the Father, that we should develop a natural hair care range. From 2018 we started doing research, tested 100's of shampoo bar recipes and learned many lessons. Being a salon owner at that time, I never anticipated the plans of the Lord and what were to come, I assumed we will make these products and I will sell them in my salon (which was a small home based salon by the way).
We started off with 5 Shampoo bars... Many people laughed, many thought we are totally crazy, and many said this will never be successful - not with 5 shampoo's! But 5 is the number for GRACE, and grace it was! Abba Father gave the name Myrtle Products. The Hebrew name for queen Esther is Hadassah, and Hadassah means Myrtle tree. And seeing that our mandate would be to restore the crowns of Bride of Christ, the name made perfect sense.
After our official launch on 1 June 2020, our 5 Shampoo's quickly became very popular, and let me tell you, they were ugly! Their colors were bright and our packaging was awful. But God!
In the time we launched Myrtle, my salon was closed due to Covid. We quickly had to think "online", seeing that our initial plan didn't work out. We opened an Instagram & Facebook page and got WhatsApp business. And that is how we started selling. 3 Months after my salon re-opened I closed the doors permanently. The 5 shampoo bars became so popular, I had no time to stand in the salon anymore.
During this time, my husband Bertus, still worked full time at a corporate company. He would come home late at night from sitting in traffic for one plus hours, and then he would start pressing shampoo bars (you need a man's strength for this part). We both ended up working late at night and weekends just to keep up. This almost resulted in complete burnout, it just wasn't sustainable. But we knew it wasn't forever, as the Lord told us we would both go full time into this business. But man, oh man, we just couldn't see how that would ever be possible. That would've meant we had to sell enough products to make up Bertus's whole salary as he covered all our big expenses. In 2021 the instruction from Abba Father came: We should pack up our live in the big city (it has always been a dream of ours to raise our kids in the country), we should move to a small town, Bertus should resign his job, and we should pursue Myrtle Products full time as a family kingdom business. To be obedient to His voice took all the faith, strength, courage and prayers we had! We finally moved to Parys in the Free State December 2021, and we've been here ever since.
Has this journey been easy? Absolutely not! We cried many tears (and still do sometimes). We had to grow in our faith and trust, and learn to fully depend on Abba Father for everything! Not having a set income is hard, it is challenging at times, and we had to learn to fully trust in God's provision, even if that meant lacking is some areas.
In the past 3 years Myrtle has grown into a professional company with clients all over the country, and even some overseas. Today we have a full range of women's and men's hair care products with many more products on the way. We have resellers throughout South Africa and a big community of like minded spirit-filled clients who encourage, pray for and bless us daily.
It is the biggest honor and privilege to serve you our clients with biblical, Holy Spirit inspired, natural products. It is the biggest joy to know we can be ambassadors of the Kingdom of God, walking in our calling and scrolls to restore the crowns of the nations.
May our products continue to bless, inspire and encourage you that anything is possible with God. When He commands, we should only be obedient! The rest is His hands.
